Robert Pelley, AMDQ
artiste et poète

M Pelley is originally from Newfoundland and has been living in the province of Quebec since 1969.   He is a former officer of both the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry and the Royal 22e Régiment.   He has also worked as a senior manager in the Quebec governement.  He holds a Bachelor's degree in Political science done in English  and a Master's degree in Public Administration done in French.

He has been painting for about 40 years, having started with the help especially of Mr Rolland Drouin, a well-known and prolific artist in Quebec City in the 1970s.

M Pelley is best known among a particular circle of people because during a long period, he concentrated on military art.  For example, at the end of the 1990s, at the invitation of the Voltigeurs de Québec, a famous regiment in Canadian history, he did a solo exhibition at the "Manège Militaire" right next to the National Assembly in downtown Quebec.  During the same period, he was notably an invited artist at the Canadian Legion national reunion in Quebec and at the Old Port in Montreal. His paintings have been presented at the Marie-Guyard building, at the Old Quebec YMCA and many other places in the region.

Today his paintings are part of the permanent collection of the Citadelle in Quebec including five in the Officers' Mess. One painting representing a Dash-8 decorated the Boardroom of Air-Alliance.   Other paintings can be found in other organizations such as the Headquarters of the Canadian Legion in Ottawa, the "Aviation" room of the Garison Club and a number of private collections.  In the autumn of 2010, one of his painting could be found at Rideau Hall, the Governor General's residence, this painting now being in the personal collection of Mme Michaëlle Jean. He still does miltary paintings on demand and likes to support fund-raising by worthy charitable organizations.

Recently Mr Pelley has been concentrating in conventional art than military art. In 2009 he was a finalist in both the International Contest of Miniature paintings (Galérie Louise Carrier) and the Quebec City annual art contest.
